The Skagit
Valley Tulip Festival attracts people from all over the
world to visit Western Washington in April and admire the glorious
fields of daffodils and tulips in bloom. Mother Nature
usually cooperates but not so this year. A very cold, very
wet winter has stalled most of the beautiful displays, leaving
barren fields to stare at.
Tim had a day off on Monday, April 9th and it wasn't raining or
cold! We headed north and made a quick trip through the
tulip area. We spotted some daffodils and a couple of fields of
trying-hard-to-open tulips. Not much to look at. So we
decided to head to RoozenGaarde, known for its show gardens.
For a small fee, we could wander among the tulips and enjoy some
colors that weren't gray.

As soon as we parked, a welcoming committee of bright tulips waved at us.
The colors were gorgeous and the tulips were mixed and matched with other
pretty flowers.
Here and there bunches of delicate Narcissus flowers enjoyed a sunbreak.
Just looking at all the vibrant colors made me smile.
I don't know the names of the tulips. The blue flowers are Grape
Hyacinths.
The daffodils are doing well this year.
The tulips complement each other.
These were huge! They're called Giant Orange Sunrise Specialty
tulips.
There were lots of double tulips which sometimes look a bit raggedy.
With one last glance we headed out for a look at some fields.
This one, behind RoozenGaarde showed some promise.
A sunny day or two and this one will pop out.
This was the brightest field in the area.
Goodbye for 2018, tulips. Thanks for coming out.
It was lovely to be out in the warm sunshine feasting on all these colors.
So it goes...
