On a bright, sunny Saturday we took a trip to one of our favorite spots, Heather Meadows and Artist Point.  These lovely places are located at the end of the Mount Baker Highway on a plateau between Mount Shuksan and Mount Baker.

They are usually open for only a few months each year from mid to late Summer until the first snowfall, often in late September or early October.  Here's our first trip of 2017.

The winding 2-lane road will take us to an elevation of 5000 feet.

The further we drove, the more snow we saw.

We're nearing the top now.

Hello, Mount Shuksan!

The parking lot at the top is clear, but Whoa Nellie - look at that snow!

We weren't quite prepared for this but off we went anyway.

Mount Shuksan was waiting at the top.  Mount Baker stayed behind the clouds today.

Did I tell you that Mount Shuksan is my favorite mountain?

There are lots of neat things to photograph up here.

Far off on the hillsides were a number of Mountain Goats!  Here are several.
