April 16, 2016
We spent the morning looking for Spring close to home, starting with the Canyon Park Pond and continuing to Juanita Bay Park.   It was sunny and pleasant - a lovely day for watching the wildlife in our area.  The furthest away we were from home was 7 miles.

The first 6 pictures were taken earlier in the week while I was testing a new lens.  It did a great job!

Canyon Park Pond

Well hello there!

This is my serious face.

First babies at Canyon Park Pond - 6 of them

Are we cute or what?

Mr. Wood Duck in all his glory.

Mrs. Wood Duck is pretty cute too.

Sadly, by today only 2 ducklings were left and the parents were bags of nerves.

Swallows are back!  Here's a Tree Swallow sitting still for a second.

A Gadwall poses for a shot.

A bunny in the brush sits as still as a statue.

High up in a bush sits a Goldfinch.

Juanita Bay Park

Oh boy this is hard on the legs says a Red-eared Slider.

Saturday Morning Coffee meeting.

Perhaps I can just sneak in on this - I'm pretty small.

Across the Bay a pair of Bald Eagles plan their day.

Mama Red-breasted Sapsucker in a frazzle - her babies are hungry.

I saw my first frogs and toads of the season near one of the boardwalks.

The Leopard Frog didn't move while I was nearby.

Turtles continued to pile up on the log.

You guys don't mind if I just squeeze in here, do you?

A Pied-billed Grebe has caught his breakfast

Swallowing it takes longer than catching it!

Hey - catching fish looks like fun!

Yeah - wanna go and try it out? asks the Western Painted Turtle.

You guys will have to be pretty fast!  Remember that!

And with that we headed back home after a great morning.
