It was a gorgeous day so I headed for
Juanita Bay Park to see whether Spring had
arrived yet. There were many
highlights of my short trip but the best of
all were the turtles - hundreds of
them sleeping, swimming, playing and
enjoying the fine weather too.
There are two kinds of turtles at Juanita
Bay Park - Red-eared Sliders which have red
streaks on their faces, and Western Painted
turtles which are very colorful. Here
are a some pictures.
Many of the turtles
tried to balance on submerged logs.
Some sat on each other.
Others clustered in little groups, trying to decide
whether to swim.
Yikes, that water is cold! Where's my towel?
Let's head for the seats until it warms up a bit.
Hey buddy - what's that on your back?
I don't know, but I can't seem to get rid of
him. Any ideas?
Come into the water. Maybe he'll jump off if he
doesn't like water.
It appears he is a fan of the wet stuff.
Sighhhhhhhh.
Maybe you should just call him Fred the Passenger.
Hey guys - whatcha doin'?
We're getting up on the log, very carefully or it
might roll us off.
Easy does it - we're nearly at the top.
Ooooops - one step too many.
Ker-splash!
Those guys did pretty well - wanna try it?
Some of the older turtles were happy to just sit.
When I grow up, I want to be just like you.
Well I am a Red-eared Slider. You are a
Western Painted Turtle.
Does that matter? I still want to be like you.
Oki-doki then. Go for it.
